The staff was friendly, making me feel welcome right from the start. However, the food could use improvement. my clam chowder lacked heat and flavor, bordering on potato soup instead of clam. The service in the dining area was simply okay, with a bartender who seemed indifferent. The room itself was somewhat cramped, with limited space for toiletries. I could also hear some noise from the rooms nearby, which interrupted my peace a bit. Despite these flaws, the delightful character of the inn and the engaging atmosphere made it worth the visit.

so much history and ambiance

The inn has character with its old historic buildings. Our Standard Double Room was nicely appointed with comfy beds. Just a heads up, no TV and steep stairs to our third-floor room. The ambiance is cozy and charming, and I loved the excellent wine bar with great food options like perfectly seared scallops and delicious potato gnocchi.

I had a wonderful stay in essex that exceeded my expectations. The hotel had such charming ambiance and history, making our experience nice while we enjoyed the northern lights. The room was cozy, clean, and the staff couldn’t have been more cute.
