Consider asking for a room away from high traffic areas. Noise can be an issue near stairways.

We were offered a double room complete with huge bathroom, a marvelous gas fireplace plus a great view. Location: the hotel was just next door to shops and the CT river front and supermarkets and quality bakeries.

The highlight was a two-hour tour aboard RiverQuest, where we soaked in the beautiful views from the ample deck space. Breakfast was really good and well-curated, setting a good tone for our days.
In my wife's opinion, more seating options would be great for families with kids.

The charm of the Griswold Inn is undeniable. The historic building is beautifully kept. The ambiance in the Tap room is cozy, and I loved the live music there. The staff was friendly. The food could use improvement. My clam chowder lacked heat and flavor, bordering on potato soup instead of clam. The service in the dining area was okay, with a bartender who seemed indifferent. The room itself was somewhat cramped, with limited space for toiletries. I could also hear some noise from the rooms nearby, which interrupted my peace a bit. Despite these flaws, the good character of the inn and the engaging atmosphere were great.

The historic inn boasts a charming ambiance that enhances the overall experience, with bright, clean rooms that offer a cute retreat. Dining in the tavern was enjoyable, with highlights including delicious potato pancakes, though breakfast was somewhat minimal. A minor inconvenience was the lack of a second chair in our initial room, but the staff promptly relocated us to a more spacious accommodation. A cold evening with live piano music added to the warm atmosphere was good.

so much history and ambiance
The inn has character with its old historic buildings. Our Standard Double Room was nicely appointed with comfy beds. Just a heads up, no TV and steep stairs to our third-floor room. The ambiance is cozy and charming, and I loved the excellent wine bar with great food options like perfectly seared scallops and delicious potato gnocchi.
